A deadly virus that is cured by ingesting semen?! Sounds like a dream come true....but when there's only one male on the entire island and 4 girls to take care of... it starts to take it's toll.
What is your favorite anime opening?
Thank you for the A2A Adriana Torres
There are so many anime openings that I really like but it would be dishonest to list all the 40+ openings I find amazing.
Instead, I will try my best to limit this list to only 10 openings as the question specifically states “favorite”, and I will add 5 honorable mentions. This list is not in any particular order. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood opening 1—Again Artist: Yui Year released: 2009 Ahhh, the first opening of my all-time favorite anime. I am aware that it is probably included in most other answers, but it is just THAT GOOD.
The opening complements the anime really well.
Why? Both of them are just perfect. Here is a little something I made because I couldn’t find a similar image online. More like, “Oh, it’s Winry today.” Ha…ha…ha. *Pull out shotgun* 2.
Cowboy Bebop opening—Tank! Band: The Seatbelts Year released: 1998 “I think it’s time we blow this scene. Get everybody and the stuff together. Okay, three…two…one, LET’S JAM!” PAPA PA PA PAPA PA PAAA PAAAAA… Damn this opening gets me so hyped up every single time I listen to it. The Seatbelts made the entire soundtrack for Cowboy Bebop, including the ending “The Real Folk Blues” which is also just as amazing. Here is a live performance of the ending uploaded in 2006, so don’t expect a good sound quality. The singer’s voice in this video seems deeper than in the official ending.
However, it still manages to match the song perfectly, and is not “uncomfortable” to hear at all.
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April) opening 1—Hikaru Nara Band: Goose House Year Released: 2014 Being the first drama/high-school/romance anime that I have ever watched, Your Lie in April is one of my few “special animes”. I remember putting this song on repeat literally for hours while studying for my O-Level exams in 2014/2015.
This song is my personal “life-hack” which I use to always be in a good mood. If you want to watch/listen to the studio recording of the song… Yes, it is noticeably different than the official opening but not in a bad way. They seem to be having so much fun recording this song especially Shuhei kudo, the guy on the guitar with the grey shirt. 4.
Steins;Gate opening—Hacking to the Gate Artist: Kanako Itō Year Released: 2011 Let’s be honest; there are many openings whose lyrics do not match their respective animes at all, and which fail to provide a deeper understanding of the story. However, “Hacking to the Gate” is not one of them.
On top of the amazing instrumental, the beautiful voice of Kanako Itō, the powerful lyrics reflect the tone of the show perfectly and the dreadful struggle of Okabe Rintarou while trying to reach the “Steins;Gate” world line. Kanako Itō also made the the opening for Steins;Gate 0, titled “Fatima”. While this opening is quite good, i think “Hacking to the Gate” is just on a whole other level.
Maybe because I’m such a huge Steins;Gate fanboy, who knows? 5(a).
Ookami to Koushinryou (Spice and Wolf) opening 1—Tabi no Tochuu Artist: Natsumi Kiyoura Year Released: 2008 If you have read some of my other answers, you would know how much I love this anime.
Spice and Wolf and Cowboy Bebop are two of the few animes that totally blew all my expectations of how an anime can impact oneself emotionally. The story is centered mainly about Economics and business deals during the Middle Ages—things I have absolutely ZERO interest (no pun intended) in.
However, Spice and Wolf bewitched me with its simple but beautiful world-building, and its perfect chemistry between its main characters. In terms of telling a story with just pictures, I don’t think this opening has its equal yet.
It feels so melancholic but joyful at the same time, that is its beauty. Here is an analysis of this opening by a famous anime YouTuber called “Mother’s Basement”. While I personally like the first opening more, the second one is in no way inferior. 5(b).
Ookami to Koushinryou II (Spice and Wolf II) opening—Mitsu no Yoake Artist: Akino Arai Year Released: 2009 6.
Tokyo Ghoul opening—Unravel Artist: Toru Kitajima Year Released: 2014 How can anyone possibly make a “Top Anime Openings” list without including “Unravel”? It just can’t be done. “Unravel” is probably the only opening which I have listened to its full version an infinite number of times more than the opening (short) version.
Honestly, I don’t think anyone can possibly get enough of this song—even those who hate Tokyo Ghoul—because it is just so “powerful” and memorable. I certainly don’t like Tokyo Ghoul as much as the 5 above animes, but I enjoyed it.
While not being exceptional, it is definitely much better than the following 2 seasons. The acoustic version played during the last episode still gives me chills 5 years after I have watched the anime. 7.
Mirai Nikki (The Future Diary) opening 1—Kuusou Mesorogiwi Artist: Yōsei Teikoku Year Released: 2011 When I watched Mirrai Nikki for the first time about 5 years ago, this opening terrorized the hell out of me because it is so weird and creepy.
I couldn’t understand the meaning behind all the symbolism present in the opening such as a deflating ball filled with blood, and I still can’t. However, that doesn’t stop it from being a very good opening which reflects well the tone of the show—it is gory, violent, and chaotic. If only the anime was as good as its opening though…that would have been perfect. 8.
Baccano! opening—Gun's & Roses Band: Paradise Lunch Year Released: 2007 The vocals are very good.
Yes, the whole 1 SECOND of it. In term of uniqueness, this opening easily tops all the other ones on this list. Using successive and separate scenes to introduce and develop (a little bit) the anime’s main characters, this opening does a really, very, extremely good job to make us feel that all of them are connected to each other in some way or another, and that each one of them will have a very important and specific role in the story. You know what the best part is? It is 100% accurate!!! 9.
Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) opening—Guren no Yumiya Band: Linked Horizon Year Released: 2013 While both the instrumental and the vocals were amazing, I also really enjoyed the visuals of the opening. The way the gruesome titans are depicted, and how the Survey Corps soldiers are united and ready to fight as one, and also the epic action scenes using the “Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear”—everything was just so exciting. Let’s also not forget about this purely epic scene… My adrenaline is pumping just by looking at this picture. 10.
Neon Genesis Evangelion opening—A Cruel Angel's Thesis Artist: Yoko Takahashi Year Released: 1995 How can you absolutely be sure that an anime opening is very good? Easy, when you keep returning to it even though you have never watched a single episode of the anime. This is my case for Neon Genesis Evangelion—it has been on my “Plan to Watch” list for years but I can never stop listening to its opening. The song feels so enigmatic while being catchy and lively at the same time.
Even though I can’t understand one single frame, I still think this is one of the greatest anime openings of all time. There was even a trend some years ago where YouTubers would use this opening to produce all sort of “fake” openings and trailers such as: “Cory in the House Anime OP” “[MAD] 破壊神ハルヒゲリオン haruhigelion” “BREXIT Anime OP” “Donald Trump Anime OP” There are many more, some hilarious and some just plain weird. This opening can fit with literally EVERYTHING. Honorable Mentions: 11.
Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) opening 1—Colors Band: Flow Year Released: 2008 JIBUN WOOOO… 12.
Soul Eater opening 2—Papermoon Artist: Tomoko Kawase Year Released: 2008 Papermoon > Resonance.
FIGHT ME! 13.
Dragon Ball Z opening 1—Cha-La Head-Cha-La Artist: Hironobu Kageyama Year Released: 1989 Brings back so many joyful memories… 14.
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon) opening—Moonlight Densetsu Band and Artist: Manish (Dali) and Misae Takamatsu Year Released: 1992 Never watched the anime, love the opening. 15.
Naruto Shippuden opening 6—Sign Band: Flow Year Released: 2010 Jiraiya <3 In the end, my favorite anime openings are mostly from animes which I really enjoyed.
That is pretty normal I guess. Feel free to drop any suggestion in the comments. Source: Google Images
