Kanae Koda happens to be absent on physical examination day, so her teacher asks her to stay behind after school.

Who's your favourite anime or manga character, and why?

I’ve answered a question similar to this, so my response would be pretty much the same, but way shorter, of course. YOSHIMURA ETO Eto is an extraordinary character written with an oddly calculative personality made to question the original beliefs of this show.
True, you barely see any character development for Eto’s original personality, and in fact, her own backstory is only revealed at the later parts of the manga/anime.
However, what’s astonishing is that Eto herself is the sole cause of uncountable developments in characters; and interestingly, those not all of them are for the worse. Eto is a character with a warped perspective of both human and ghoul nature.
As a firm believer in ghoul rights, she strongly desires to create a world where ghouls can live peacefully with humans, and she would do anything to accomplish her goal, even sacrificing her own life.
It kind of makes her an anti-villain in many ways.
However, she also puts faith in the fact that ‘what cannot be changed can only be broken’ — a blunt attack directed to those who stand in her way.
Sure, Eto certainly possesses an admirable goal, but what makes her such a great villain is that she has the resolve to slaughter even the people she’s trying so desperately to save, in order to create the new world she so speaks of. On the other hand, her keen ability to sense the desires of others and act accordingly in a way to manipulate them as she pleases is astounding.
But what makes her truly scary the hidden fact that she only ever wanted loyalty from the people around her — take Hinami for an example.
During the arc where Hinami was captured (in the anime), it was hinted that Eto may have had a choice to prevent her arrest.
Eto knew the risks of losing such a great ghoul with extraordinary abilities, however she did nothing to stop Hinami.
Why is that so? You see, Eto only ever wanted loyalty.
Although she had a sepreate reason, I felt like she knew that Hinami’s loyalty would always lie in Kaneki, and hence let her go willingly.
You could say the same thing happened with her turning Anteiku in to the CCG as Takatsuki Sen (her reasons being her hatred towards her father and knowing that there was no way anyone from Anteiku would side with her) — though both organisations share the same beliefs but acted in different ways. You can tell that a lot of thought is put into writing Eto, and she’s a brilliant character with a personality born from her childhood.
Inside, I believe that she still bears the same fear of abandonment, hence the fact that she desires unwavering loyalty (also making it clear to those who chose her side that she might betray them one day, and this also might be due to her childhood trauma), but she rules this fact out with a sadistic personality and an intention to relinquish the world she so sees by stepping on those she despises.
Though it isn’t really that distinct, she still does care for her Aogiri Tree companions and also admits that it would be difficult to accomplish her goals without them, but what’s more terrifying is that she still holds on to the belief that all she eventually needs is herself. I absolutely admire her resolve and her goals, as well as the fact that she’s the key character that pushes Kaneki’s character development both directly and indirectly.
