Based on the manga by Hiyo Hiyo.
What are some good anime to just relax and consume, without having to think?
In the age of Boku no Hero Academia, One Punch Man, Tokyo Ghoul sometimes we overlook a lot of quieter titles.
Watching an anime to relax is a great idea and something like Devilman Crybaby won’t help you do that! Following are some anime which are the very definition of tranquility: 1.
Hyouka One of the most popular anime in Slice of Life genre.
Though a bit overrated in my opinion, the stunning visuals and a calm main character make it an interesting watch. 2.
Sakamoto desu ga? Again a very popular Slice of Life anime with a MC who is too cool for human standards.
Everything he does, he does it with perfection.
Ladies swoon around him and in some cases, even men can’t resist his charms.
The anime doesn’t follow a story so there is no obligation to force ourselves to remember the plot.
Just look at the guy! A true work of art! 3.
Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou Whether it be suggestive riverside romance or guys doing some extremely stupid stuff, the anime is a perfect depiction of how does an average teenager think.
Each episode covers 4–5 minutes short stories which is more than sufficient given its content.
The characters aren’t memorable which doesn’t seem to be a deliberate attempt on mangaka’s part but it works wonders for this show.
Don’t start watching the next episode on commencement of ED song because you will miss the even funnier segment of ‘High School Girls are Funky’. 4.
Alice to Zouroku Plenty of moe in the form of Sana Kashimura.
Watch for the beautiful relationship amongst the members of the Kashimura family and The Red Queen who has the ability to create an entire dimension.
A typical anime for kids can make you relax quite easily. 5.
Great Teacher Onizuka Certainly no teacher would look like an ex-Yakuza member or a bike gang leader.
This is one of the best examples of how an anime from a comedy genre must be like.
Though 43 episodes long, it doesn’t follow a rigid story.
Again a great anime to relax however, watch out for the parodies which may be thrown out of no where such as Roswell Incident, Doraemon, Gundam etc. 6.
Lupin III: Cagliostro no Shiro One of the most important movies in the history of anime, this movie was directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
This movie made me take up the Lupin III series more seriously.
An entertaining watch with plenty of action, comedy and suggestive romance. 7.
Azumanga Daioh This right here is similar to Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou but from the perspective of six high school girls, predecessor of the latter mentioned anime and a pioneer of using running gags as comedy.
A great anime to kick back and relax. 8.
Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan (TV) The only anime which dared to reference Gintama, it is one of the best ongoing series.
A high school boy with psychic powers has a plethora of problems starting from keeping his powers going berserk, avoiding spoilers by watching every show in live mode and hiding his powers from his classmates.
Each episode is divided into five segments, so we are looking at story narration similar to that of Crayon Shin-chan. 9.
Barakamon One of the most soothing anime in the history of anime as agreed upon on r/anime, MAL, AniDB etc.
Doesn’t have a story to keep you at the edge but that is what you want isn’t it? Not all anime require super powers to make a great anime.
A perfect balance of comic timing and heart warming moments. 10.
Saint☆Oniisan An anime which is never talked upon and my favorite anime when it comes to watching anime to unwind.
Zealots should not watch this anime.
This anime is the happiest anime I have ever watched which made me grin like an idiot.
So it is about a hypothetical scenario i.e.
if Jesus and Buddha were to stay together on Earth as a vacation.
The humor is quite subtle with references to Osamu Tezuka’s Buddha, Kamen Rider etc.
and most of the times the humor could be understood only if a person has basic understanding of Christianity and Buddhism (eg - Buddha holding a bag with Nirvana scribbled on it in the above image and Jesus wearing the Crown of Thorns).
One of the most colorful art styles I have ever seen! This is easily at the top of all the anime, I have watched from this list.
Has one of the best ED songs: Hope this answers your question!
